The brother of the victim, who was shot dead in Kahawatta yesterday, has alleged that the murder had taken place due to their objections to drug peddling being carried out in their area of residence.
Speaking to the media, the man revealed that a distant relative was involved in the drug business and that complaints had been filed with the Kahawatta Police in this regard.
He further said that despite many complaints being filed, Police officers had not taken any form of action to curb drug activities.
The man also revealed that he and several of his relatives had received multiple phone calls from the leader of the drug business, threatening to shoot and kill them over the complaints filed thus far.
He further revealed that people in civil attire, claiming to be Police officers, had taken away his brother along with his mobile phone last night, after which he was found shot dead.
The man accused the Kahawatta Police of failing to take the necessary action, raising doubts about whether they were in support of the drug business.
A 22-year-old youth was shot dead, and a 27-year-old man was injured in the shooting reported in the Kahawatta area last night.
Police investigations revealed that four unidentified individuals had visited a house in the Koskaella area and abducted the two young men.
The Police said the victims had later been taken to a deserted location, where they were shot, during which one person had succumbed to injuries at the scene. (Newswire)
