Several spells of light showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle and Matara districts today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
The sea areas off the coast, extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, will be rough at times.
