Rain expected in a few areas today

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today, according to the Department of Meteorology.

A few showers may occur in the North-western province.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile, showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and from Manna to Vakarai via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.
