Sri Lanka will continue discussions with the United States on the 30% trade tariff, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma said.
Harshana Suriyapperuma said that further discussions will be held until the August 1 deadline.
The reduction of the 44% tariff imposed by the US to 30% was possible due to the negotiations of the Sri Lankan government with various parties, he added.
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that Sri Lanka has been hit with a 30% tariff by the United States.
Under the new measures, imports from Sri Lanka will see duties rise to 30%, effective from August 01. (Newswire)
