Postal workers have decided to engage in trade union action from midnight today (15), based on several demands.
According to Co-convener of United Postal Trade Unions’ Front Chinthaka Bandara, this trade union action will see the withdrawal from overtime work.
“Currently, a very serious situation has arisen within the Postal Department, particularly due to the restriction of overtime for control office staff. On one hand, workers are under intense pressure, and on the other, services in the control offices are rapidly collapsing. Therefore, we are forced to take serious action. We’ve decided to launch an island-wide overtime boycott,” he said.
Claiming that the Postal Administration is well aware that such action will disrupt the mail service, he said, “At some locations that require ten staff members, only one is now present. If we don’t receive a response within today, this action will begin at all postal and control offices island-wide starting at midnight.” (Newswire)
