Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya stated that approximately 40% of police officers in the country are suffering from non-communicable diseases.
He made these remarks while speaking at an event organized to distribute school supplies to children of police officers in the Sabaragamuwa Province.
“If you look at the condition of police officers, around 20% to 40% suffer from non-communicable diseases. Another 30% have yet to undergo proper medical check-ups. Only the remaining 30% are in good physical health. Some officers have developed various non-communicable diseases due to issues at home, job-related stress, and other factors,” he explained.
He also added that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been made aware of salary concerns among police officers, and a favorable salary structure is expected to be introduced next year.
Furthermore, he noted plans to streamline police duties, enhance performance, and highlight the value of their service to the community. (NewsWire)
