Lanka Salt Ltd. has resumed salt production in Hambantota after an 18-month suspension caused by adverse weather conditions, Chairman D. Nandana Thilaka announced.
Production resumed this morning (July 21) at the Bundala saltern, with an expected output of 40,000 metric tons.
Although the company initially targeted 100,000 metric tons last year, only around 40,000 metric tons were harvested due to unfavorable weather.
Nandana Thilaka added that harvesting at the Mahalevaya saltern is scheduled to begin tomorrow (July 22). (Newswire)
