A total of 1,241 individuals involved in narcotics-related offenses—including the possession of illegal drugs and illicit alcohol—were arrested during a nationwide special operation, the Ministry of Public Security announced.
The operation, conducted under the directive of Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala and the coordination of Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya, spanned across the island and targeted known hotspots for narcotics activity.
According to police, the operation led to the seizure of 254,679 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), 112,567 milligrams of heroin, and 3,738,356 milligrams of cannabis.
Authorities said 21,132 individuals were subjected to searches, while 7,922 vehicles and 6,545 motorcycles were inspected as part of the crackdown. (Newswire)
