06 civilians arrested over bribery-related incidents so far in 2025

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) says 34 individuals were arrested in connection with bribery-related incidents during the first six months of 2025.

The Bribery Commission says it received 3,022 complaints between January 1 and June 30 of this year.

Within this period, 54 raids were conducted, resulting in the arrest of 34 suspects.

Among those suspects are 10 officers from the Sri Lanka Police, 5 officers from the Ministry of Justice, 2 officers from the Ministry of Health, and 2 officers from the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).

The Bribery Commission further said that, additionally, 6 civilians were also arrested during the first six months of this year in connection with bribery incidents.

During this time, 50 legal cases were filed across various courts against 60 suspects related to bribery.

Furthermore, 6 cases have been concluded, while 273 bribery-related cases are currently being examined in courts throughout the country. (Newswire)
