‘Bathala Heen Mahaththaya’ : Police find over Rs. 1.75 bn transactions

The Police have found that transactions of over Rs. 1.75 billion were conducted by an account owned by notorious drug lord Jayasinghe Arachchige Hemantha alias ‘Bathala Heen Mahaththaya’.

Investigations conducted by the Police Illegal Assets and Intellectual Property Investigation Unit reveal that the transactions took place over 03 years, between 2021 and 2023.

The Police say the cash transactions were found during an investigation conducted into the drug lord’s properties, which were registered under the name of his wife and had been seized by the authorities in the past. 

The wife of ‘Bathala Heen Mahaththaya’ was arrested yesterday after appearing before the CID to record a statement in this regard.

During interrogations, she had revealed that the drug lord owned a fuel station and 06 buses. 

After being produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court yesterday, she was released under strict bail conditions. 

The Police said further investigations are continuing into the properties of ‘Bathala Heen Mahaththaya’.

They also revealed that information has been uncovered that a security officer of a former President was a close relative of the drug lord. (Newswire)
