“Where is the Rocket Man now?” – Minister Wasantha hits back at SupremeSAT

Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe has once again commented on the controversial SupremeSAT issue at a public gathering in Polonnaruwa today.

The minister said the matter has resurfaced at a time when more important development discussions should be taking place.

“We have information that this company was established in May 2012, yet a satellite was launched in November the same year with an investment of Rs. 12,000 million,” he said, alleging that the satellite’s accounts were not reflected in the 2014/15 financial statements.

He also questioned how the company was granted rights to use the country’s satellite space without a proper tender process.

“Where is the rocket man now? Is he around? They called him the first space scientist from Sri Lanka. There is news that he has said he doesn’t know anything about rockets and merely repeated what was told to him,” he added.

“When the government starts working, these topics emerge to distract public attention,” the minister said, stressing the need to stay focused on the development work at hand. (NewsWire)
