Five members from the same family have been arrested over the assault of a 19-year-old man and his mother in the Maliduwa area in Akuressa, it is reported.
According to the Akuressa Police, the youth had been abducted by the family and had been tied to a concrete post near their house, after which he had been assaulted.
Police investigations reveal that the victim and a 24-year-old suspect had been employed at the same workplace in Aham=ngama for a period of time, and the abduction and assault had taken place over a longstanding dispute connected to a love affair.
It is reported that the victim, who had been returning home on 09 August, had been abducted by the suspect, his parents, and two siblings, and had been assaulted after being tied to a concrete post.
Despite the victim’s mother having arrived at the location to rescue her son, she too had been assaulted. The suspects had also refused to let go of the victim despite requests from the area residents.
However, upon receiving information in this regard, a team of officials from the Akuressa Police had visited the area and released the victim, later dispatching him and his injured mother to the Akuressa District Hospital.
The Police later arrested the 24-year-old suspect, his 53-year-old father, 49-year-old mother, 28-year-old sister, and 22-year-old brother in connection with the abduction and assault of the victim. (Newswire)
