The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the allocation of Rs. 2,000 million from the 2025 national budget to implement the District Development Program, a nationwide initiative covering all districts.

The program aims to improve infrastructure, promote local production, enhance service delivery, expand trade and marketing facilities, and strengthen institutional capacities.

Funding will be distributed to districts based on poverty levels identified by the Department of Census and Statistics, using the Multidimensional Poverty Index.

The proposal was presented by the President in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

The government said the initiative is intended to address regional disparities and support economic growth at the district level. (Newswire)
