A 48-year-old man was arrested at the Katunayake Airport on Monday for smuggling 28 gold biscuits weighing 3.266 kilos, by concealing them in vehicle spare parts imported from Dubai.
According to the Police, the suspect was arrested following an inspection conducted by officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the airport.
The Police said the suspect had pretended to be a businessman involved in importing vehicle spare parts and had concealed the gold inside the vehicle spare parts.
The seized gold biscuits are estimated to be worth over Rs. 110 million. The CID is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
