The Cabinet has approved the recognition of the annual pilgrimage by Sri Lankan devotees to the Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple in Kerala, India, as a government-accepted sacred pilgrimage.
Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said more than 15,000 Sri Lankans travel to the temple each year between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31.
The proposal was presented by the Minister of Buddhism, Religious and Cultural Affairs. (Newswire)
