Sri Lanka will host its first-ever National AI Expo & Conference on September 29-30, 2025, marking a major step towards transforming the nation into an AI-powered economy.
Organised by the Ministry of Digital Economy in partnership with SLT-MOBITEL, the event aims to position Sri Lanka as a leading artificial intelligence hub in the Asia-Pacific region. It will support the government’s goal of expanding the digital economy from US$3.5 billion in 2025 to US$15 billion by 2030, with AI projected to contribute 10-12% of this growth.
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eng. Eranga Weeraratne said the event will lay the foundation for a digitally empowered nation, where AI drives innovation, economic growth, and quality of life.
The two-day conference will feature global technology leaders, including representatives from Huawei and Meta, addressing themes such as responsible AI governance, sector-specific applications, skills development, and localization challenges. Exhibitions, workshops, and networking opportunities will connect businesses, startups, academia, and international investors.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is expected to unveil Sri Lanka’s comprehensive AI roadmap, a National AI Fund, and a Centre for AI Excellence during the event.
Phase 2 of the initiative, from November 2025 to May 2026, will extend AI literacy and adoption to regional hubs including Jaffna, Anuradhapura, Kandy, and Matara, ensuring nationwide participation in the country’s digital transformation.
