Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe says an investigation has been launched into the incorrect facts that were provided to Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya regarding the Supreme SAT project.
PM Amarasuriya disclosed facts in Parliament recently regarding revenue generated by the company involved in the project commonly referred to as ‘Chichi’s rocket’. The figures were later corrected by Minister Samarasinghe, stating that the information provided to the Prime Minister was incorrect.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Samarasinghe said that an investigation has been launched into the officials who had provided incorrect figures to the PM.
“When the Prime Minister is expected to respond in Parliament, it is the responsibility of the relevant officials to provide the correct information. However, due to this error, the matter has come to the spotlight. I also made a statement to provide the correct facts to the public,” he said.
Stating that the government had spotted an error in the information that had been provided to the Prime Minister, he pointed out that PM Amarasuriya had, at the time, disclosed that the information had been provided by the relevant officials and would be looked into further.
“We then looked into the matter further and provided the correct statistics. This error has brought to light several other issues linked to the project. I think several matters that were previously concealed will come out in the future,” he added. (Newswire)
