The Ministry of Health says only 21% of diabetic patients in Sri Lanka receive continuous treatment.
According to Ministry data, approximately 25% of individuals with high blood pressure are under regular care.
The information was disclosed by Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa during the launch of a special medical clinic program across 24 prison hospitals in Sri Lanka.
The programme was launched at the Welikada Prison Research and Training Centre yesterday and will run island-wide until 16th August.
Addressing the event, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa highlighted the rise of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The Minister pointed out that Sri Lanka’s health system is designed to manage and eliminate both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
He attributed the increase in NCDs to poor dietary and lifestyle habits and stressed the importance of uninterrupted treatment for disease management.
Reports from the Ministry’s NCD division indicate that while a significant number of women undergo health screenings, engaging men and professionals in these clinics remains a challenge. (Newswire)
