The Bribery Commission says the Acting Director of the Police Cultural Division, SSP Sathish Gamage, was arrested for having collected Rs. 14 million in bribes from various parties.
Providing details on the arrest, the Bribery Commission said that the Police officer had obtained the bribes while being in charge of the Galle and Embilipitiya Divisions.
According to the Bribery Commission, SSP Sathish Gamage had opened three bank accounts using another individual’s name.
He had later transferred bribes obtained from organized criminals, people arriving for services related to the Police, and other criminals, into the three bank accounts.
The Bribery Commission further states that SSP Sathish Gamage was arrested today and has been charged with bribery and money laundering.
SSP Sathish Gamage is due to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today. (Newswire)
