A suspect has been arrested over the fatal shooting of a former Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha member, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said.
The killing occurred on August 12 in the Gehenewala area of the Meegoda police division. Investigators arrested the alleged gunman on August 20 in Nagarevava, Hambantota.
Police identified the suspect as a 34-year-old former Army soldier from Barawakumbuka. During questioning, CID uncovered links to two other attempted murders in Avissawella and Kollupitiya.
Following the suspect’s disclosure, officers recovered a locally made 9mm firearm, four 9mm rounds, two locally produced 12-bore weapons, and six grams of crystal methamphetamine from a hideout in Hanwella.
Further investigations are underway, police said.(Newswire)
