The public has been warned of the circulation of fake and fraudulent documents bearing names, signatures, stamps and logos of the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT), Sri Lanka Police and the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA).

Issuing a statement, the SLCERT said the fraudulent documents issued as legal notices have been circulated among officials and the public.

These documents attempt to impersonate government institutions, make false accusations of illegal online activity, and pressure recipients into responding urgently, the SLCERT said.

Stating that these documents are fake and have not been issued by the SLCERT, Police, or NCPA, it further clarified that government agencies do not issue legal notices through unofficial channels.

The SLCERT warned that responding to such documents may put individuals at risk of fraud or exploitation.

The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team has urged the public not to respond to such documents or provide any personal or financial information to those distributing them. (Newswire)
