Six people have died in a series of road accidents reported from Morawewa, Kilinochchi, Anuradhapura, Walasmulla and Aralaganwila, police said.
In Paranthan along the A9 road, a lorry collided with a bus, after which the lorry struck a motorcycle traveling nearby, killing the rider and pillion passenger, aged 25 and 27, residents of Paranthan and Muttur.
In Morawewa’s Avwanagar area, a 71-year-old cyclist from Thambalagamuwa died after being hit by a motorcycle.
In Anuradhapura, near the Malwathu Oya iron bridge, a 26-year-old youth from Galenbindunuwewa was killed when his motorcycle veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
In Nethuwala, Walasmulla, a 56-year-old man from Mee Ella died when his motorcycle overturned after colliding with a dog on the Hakmana road.
Meanwhile, in Medagama on the Aralaganwila–Manampitiya road, a 77-year-old pedestrian from Dewagala succumbed to injuries after being struck by a motorcycle. He was admitted to the Polonnaruwa Hospital but later died. (NewsWire)
