A 17-year-old youth from Nanuoya who was arrested for brutally assaulting a dog and throwing it into the Nanuoya stream has been remanded until 10th September.

Following his arrest by the Nanuoya Police, the youth from Edinburgh Estate was remanded by the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court this week.

It is reported that the youth had acted in this manner after the dog had bitten and injured his kitten.

Video footage on social media shows the youth attacking the dog with a stick, dragging it across the ground, and flinging it into the stream that flows into the Kotmale Reservoir.

However, the injured animal is said to have managed to swim back home despite its injuries.

The owner of the dog had filed a complaint with the Nanuoya Police after seeing the video of the attack on social media, and the matter was initially settled, with the suspect agreeing to pay for the dog’s medical treatment.

However, due to public uproar over the incident, the Nanuoya Police arrested the suspect again and produced him in court, after which he was remanded until September. (Newswire)
