Police have arrested a suspect in connection with Sunday’s fatal shooting near the Wennappuwa Police Station that left one man dead and another injured.
The suspect, who was in possession of a firearm, was taken into custody along with a sword and a car believed to have been used in the attack, police said.
The incident occurred around 10.30 a.m. on Wewa Road when a group arriving in a car knocked down two men traveling on a motorcycle. The attackers then assaulted the victims with sharp weapons before opening fire with a revolver.
One of the men died from gunshot wounds, while the other was injured but managed to escape. Investigations revealed the victims had been returning after signing at the Wennappuwa Police Station in relation to a pending High Court case. The deceased was due to receive a court ruling on September 9.
Police said further investigations are underway to determine the motive and identify others involved in the attack. (Newswire)
