President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today laid the foundation stone for the Jaffna International Cricket Stadium, a long-awaited project aimed at boosting sports in the North.

At the ceremony, the President publicly inquired from Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman Shammi Silva about the timeline for the stadium’s readiness. Silva responded that the venue is expected to host its first domestic game by December this year, while an international match could be staged within the next three years.

Addressing the gathering, the President said he wished to see greater diversity in the national cricket team, with Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim communities represented together at the highest level. (Newswire)
