President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to inaugurate the construction of the proposed new international cricket stadium in Jaffna this afternoon (01). The project is expected to provide the Northern Province with a state-of-the-art venue for international matches, training facilities, and community engagement through sport. Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the President will also attend a public gathering at the site.

Earlier in the day, President Dissanayake will launch the third phase of the Myliddy Fisheries Harbour development project. The initiative aims to provide critical facilities such as water, electricity, fuel, cold storage, net repair centers, auction halls, and radio communication hubs to the fishing community in the North, as well as to vessels from the East and South.

In addition, the President will open the new Jaffna Regional Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, located within the District Secretariat premises. The office, equipped with modern technology, is designed to cater to the growing demand for passports in the region, providing residents with more convenient access to services.

The President will also inaugurate the e-Library programme at the Jaffna Public Library, enabling global digital access to the library’s collection. (Newswire)
