41 state officials arrested by Bribery Commission over 07 months in 2025

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has received 3,937 complaints during the first seven months of this year.

According to the Commission’s progress report, of these, 1,011 complaints were dismissed without investigation due to insufficient evidence or because they did not fall under the scope of the Bribery Act.

The report further states that 49 suspects were taken into custody during raids related to bribery incidents within the same seven-month period.

Accordingly, 41 officials holding various positions across 15 state institutions were arrested during these operations.

The report notes that the majority of those arrested were from the Police Department, with 17 Police officers taken into custody.

According to the Commission’s findings, suspects were also apprehended from other state institutions, including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Transport Board, and Divisional Secretariats.

In addition to arrests made during raids, another 39 individuals were taken into custody through other forms of investigation.
