Sri Lanka Customs has reportedly installed two state-of-the-art scanning machines, valued at approximately Rs. 50 million, at the Katunayake Airport terminal.

According to a senior Customs official at the Katunayake Airport, the machines, imported from Germany, operate using 2D scanning technology, enabling more precise detection of illegal substances.

Special attention will be directed toward identifying contraband items entering the country, particularly illegal drugs and cigarettes.

Sri Lanka Customs has confirmed that officers have already received the necessary training to operate the machines, and further training will be provided as needed. (Newswire)
