President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today felicitated ASP Rohan Olugala of the Western North Crimes Division and ASP Mahinda Jayasundara of the Criminal Investigation Department for their crucial role in tracking down a Sri Lankan underworld group in Indonesia.
Among those arrested in the operation were Mandinu Padmasiri, alias Kehelbaddara Padme, Commando Salintha, and Kudu Nilantha, who had been hiding in Jakarta. The arrests followed a covert mission launched under the supervision of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya and Senior DIG Asanka Karawita.
The two Sri Lankan officers, working in coordination with Indonesian police, carried out days of intense surveillance under challenging conditions, often surviving on minimal meals and sleeping in public areas to avoid detection. Despite a last-minute attempt by the suspects to flee their safehouse, they were eventually captured and handed over to Sri Lankan authorities.
The President praised the officers’ dedication, describing the mission as a landmark success in Sri Lanka’s fight against organized crime. (Newswire)
