Two arrested over Meetiyagoda, Bandaragama shootings

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with recent shooting incidents in the South and Western Provinces.

Officers from the Special Task Force detained a 31-year-old resident of Lindula in Talawakelle yesterday, acting on information linking him to an attempted shooting in Meetiyagoda the previous day.

Investigators said the man had provided support to the main suspect, who was already in custody along with a T-56 rifle and motorcycle used in the crime. The suspect was handed over to the Agarapatana Police for further inquiries.

Separately, the Kalutara Crimes Division arrested a 23-year-old man from Hirana, Panadura, yesterday in connection with the killing of a man near the Bolgoda bridge in Bandaragama on August 21. 

The suspect was also accused of assisting the main gunman. He was produced before the Bandaragama Police for further investigation. (Newswire)
