The Court of Appeal has issued an interim restraining order to the Colombo Crimes Division, preventing the arrest of a lawyer suspected in connection with the investigation into the shooting incident involving the vehicle of former National Lotteries Board Director, Thusitha Halloluwa.

This order was issued by a panel of judges comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohana Abeysooriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando, following the consideration of a petition submitted to the court.

President’s Counsel Saliya Pieris, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, argued before the court that there was insufficient evidence to justify the arrest of his client.

He stated that his client had only provided professional legal services to Thusitha Halloluwa and was not involved in any criminal activity.

Accordingly, after reviewing the presented facts, the Court of Appeal issued the interim restraining order, which will remain in effect for 14 days. (Newswire)
