Cabinet approval has been granted to issue a new circular for admitting students from Grade 2 to Grade 11, excluding Grades 5 and 6.
The government stated that to implement the proposed education reforms, it is essential to maintain the number of students per classroom within approved limits.
Accordingly, it has been recognized that a proper mechanism should be introduced to allow student admissions to intermediate grades (excluding Grades 5 and 6), while affirming every child’s right to education.
Taking these factors into account, plans are underway to issue new circular guidelines that prioritize students who genuinely need to transfer from their current school to another due to various reasons, especially in intermediate grades.
Based on recommendations submitted by a subcommittee appointed by the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training, all previously issued circular guidelines related to student admissions from Grade 2 to Grade 11, excluding Grades 5 and 6, will be cancelled.
The Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, in her capacity as Minister of Education, to issue the new circular guidelines. (Newswire)
