The National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), under the Ministry of Industries and Enterprise Development, in collaboration with NSBM Green University, has launched the “Colombo Robotics Meetup 2025,” an initiative aimed at integrating robotics and digital technology into Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector.

Scheduled for Sept. 12, 2025, at NSBM Green University, the program seeks to transition traditional farmers into “smart farmers” by introducing modern, technology-based practices. A media briefing for the event was held Sept. 4 at the NEDA Auditorium.

The initiative aims to support farmers using conventional methods by providing access to advanced tools and sustainable techniques.

Participating organizations include Imperial College London, NSBM Green University, the Export Development Board, the Information and Communication Technology Agency, the National Initiative for Research and Development Commercialization, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Speakers at the media briefing included NEDA Chairman Lakshman Abeysekera; Senior Lecturer Eng. Lasith Balasooriya of NSBM; Amitha Jayawardena, director general of the Agriculture Technology Division of the Ministry of Agriculture; and Dhanuka Liyanage, director of NEDA. Prof. Krishantha Nanayakkara of Imperial College London also addressed the event virtually.

The Colombo Robotics Meetup 2025 aims to combine traditional agricultural knowledge with emerging technologies to modernize farming practices across the country. (Newswire)
