Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has reportedly been summoned before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over a complaint that government funds were used to renovate the United National Party (UNP) headquarters, Sirikotha, Newsfirst reported.

The complaint alleges that state funds were allocated for the development of Sirikotha, despite it being the property of a political party. CIABOC has launched an inquiry and is expected to record statements from Premadasa and other officials linked to the project.

The renovation of Sirikotha has faced scrutiny since earlier this year, when questions were raised about its funding sources. Former UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has also appeared before the commission in connection with the probe.

Premadasa, who now leads the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has not issued a statement regarding the summons, and CIABOC has not released an official comment on the matter. (Newswire)
