Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, the media spokesman for Sri Lanka Police, said initial investigations into the bus accident at Ella have identified a mechanical issue with the vehicle.
He said an expert from the Department of Motor Traffic had inspected the wreckage and submitted a report confirming the finding.
However, Wootler noted that further investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the crash.
The wreckage of the bus, which toppled into a precipice on the Ella–Wellawaya road on Thursday night, has been recovered and will be handed over to the Government Analyst tomorrow (08) for further examination.
The accident left 15 people dead and several others injured. Authorities have launched a full inquiry into the tragedy. (Newswire)
