The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has suspended the party membership of Sampath Manampeiri, a former local government member from Angunukolapelessa, following allegations linking him to the possession of chemicals used in the production of crystal methamphetamine.
In a statement, SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said the party maintains a strict policy against individuals facing such serious accusations. He confirmed that Manampeiri’s membership was suspended with immediate effect.
“This is a grave allegation. We expect investigations to be completed quickly and the truth revealed to the public,” Kariyawasam said.
Police announced earlier this week that Manampeiri and his brother, Piyal Manampeiri, were accused of concealing about 50,000 kilograms of chemicals used for ice production at a property in Meddeniya, Thalawa. The brothers have reportedly fled the area, and investigations are ongoing. (Newswire)
