Police in a statement said that reports circulating on social media claiming two containers held at the Colombo Port under a red label for inspection, and suspected to contain chemicals linked to crystal methamphetamine (ICE), had been released on the orders of the NPP Government are completely false.
The statement clarified that the false reports attributed the claim to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olagala, who categorically denied making any such remarks.
Police further said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya has directed a special investigation into the matter. The statement added that individuals responsible for spreading the fake news will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. (Newswire)
