The Second Reading debate of the “Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal)” Bill is being held today in Parliament, with a vote scheduled for 3.30 p.m., officials said.
Parliament’s Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, agreed that the debate would run from 11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera said.
Following the vote, the Opposition will take up an adjournment motion from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. on the need to provide farmers with guaranteed prices and to resolve ongoing challenges in the agriculture sector.
The Mediation (Civil and Commercial Disputes) Bill, which was originally listed for debate today, has been postponed to a later date after the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and other parties sought more time to review proposed amendments, Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara told the committee.
