Army Lt. Col. arrested over supplying ammunition to underworld figure

Sri Lanka police today (11) arrested a Lieutenant Colonel attached to the Army on charges of supplying T-56 ammunition to underworld figure ‘Commando Salintha’, who was recently arrested in Indonesia and brought to Sri Lanka.

According to police, officers of the Western North Crimes Division arrested the officer while he was serving as the commanding officer of the Mallawi Palainagar Army camp.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had sold 260 T-56 rounds in two separate transactions — 200 and 60 rounds — for Rs. 650,000.

It was also disclosed that the officer had served at the Commando Regiment Centre in 2017, during which time ‘Commando Salintha’ had worked under his command.
