Colombo shootings: 22-year-old driver, 17-year-old youth in custody

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with separate shooting incidents in Colombo, authorities said.

The Western Province South Crimes Division detained a 22-year-old trishaw driver in Aththidiya, Dehiwala, over the Aug. 24 fatal shooting of a man in Malani Bulathsinhala Mawatha, Boralesgamuwa. Police said the suspect, a resident of Kalubowila, was taken into custody on Sept. 10 after investigations revealed he drove the three-wheeler used in the attack.

In a separate operation, officers from the Special Task Force (STF) Intelligence Division arrested a 17-year-old boy near Linton Grounds in Ragama. Police said the suspect assisted in the Aug. 22 Seewaliapura, Borella shooting and is believed to be linked to an organized crime and drug trafficking network. He was handed over to Ragama Police for further questioning.

Both cases remain under investigation. (Newswire)
