The Sri Lankan Police have arrested 05 suspects in Colpetty and Maligawatte, foiling a planned shooting attempt.
According to the Police, officials from the Colpetty Police had inspected two men on a motorcycle on Alfred Road, on suspicion last night.
One suspect had discarded the bag he was carrying and fled the area, while the other had been arrested.
Upon inspecting the bag, the Police had found a T-56 firearm, a magazine with 30 bullets, a knife, and three mobile phones.
Following the information revealed by the arrested suspect, the Police were able to arrest the suspect, who had previously fled, and three others in the Bodhiraja Mawatha area in Maligawatte.
The Police found the suspects with 18g of ICE, a motorcycle, and 02 mobile phones.
The arrested suspects are aged 19, 25, 40, and 48, and are residents of Colombo 14, Wellampitiya, Maligawatte, and Dematagoda.
Further investigations have found that the suspects were en route to carry out a shooting on the orders of an underworld figure residing overseas.
