SJB lawmaker Prasad Siriwardena has apologized to government MP Lakmali Hemachandra following a heated exchange in Parliament on Wednesday.
Siriwardena said a comment he made during the debate may have been construed as personally offensive and expressed “heartfelt regret” if Hemachandra was hurt. He stressed that his politics are guided by policy disagreements and not personal attacks.
The apology came after allegations that Siriwardena’s remarks carried a sexist undertone. He said the statement was made in frustration when his microphone was cut off during his speech. (Newswire)
