Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Sujeewa Senasinghe has withdrawn a letter convening the inaugural meeting of a proposed Sri Lanka – Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association, admitting it was issued by mistake.
In a statement, Senasinghe said the notice calling members of parliament to join the association was a result of an “error and lapse,” and confirmed that he has already informed all relevant authorities in writing to cancel the initiative.
“The letter signed by me convening the Israel–Sri Lanka friendship society was a genuine mistake. I have already informed the relevant authorities that I would withdraw that letter with immediate effect and to take necessary steps to cancel the same,” Senasinghe stated.
He further expressed regret over the incident, adding that he deeply apologizes for any inconvenience caused to parliament, the parties involved, and the public.
The initial notice, dated 4 September, had invited MPs to enroll in the proposed association and attend an inaugural meeting on 12 September at Parliament. (Newswire)
