Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has congratulated Sushila Karki on her appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government.
“I convey my warmest congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Sushila Karki on her assumption of the Premiership of Nepal’s interim government. We are confident that her leadership will guide Nepal towards a smooth return to lasting peace and democracy,” he posted on X.
Nepal’s former Chief Justice, Sushila Karki, took oath as interim Prime Minister at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, on Friday night, becoming the country’s first woman to hold the position.
Her appointment follows massive protests on September 8, which left at least 51 people dead. Karki emerged as the leading candidate with strong support from Gen Z representatives who led the demonstrations.
