Construction work on the Central Expressway section between Kadawatha and Mirigama, which has been on hold since mid-2022 due to the economic crisis, will officially resume on September 17 under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
At the same time, work will also begin on the Kadawatha Interchange Hub and the first 500 meters of the expressway starting from Kadawatha. The Sri Lankan government has allocated Rs. 8.6 billion for this component of the project.
According to Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, the project is being revived with a USD 500 million loan secured from the Export-Import Bank of China. The 37-kilometer stretch from Kadawatha to Mirigama is scheduled for completion by mid-2028. (NewsWire)
