Above 50 mm of rain expected in some areas of Sri Lanka today

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern, and Northern provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, today. 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of the island after 1.00 pm. 

According to the Department of Meteorology, fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places on the island.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanturai to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the other sea areas during the evening or night.

Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanturai via Mannar.
