Islandwide raids targeting rice traders selling above the government-regulated prices have intensified this week.
According to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), 31 raids were conducted across the country on September 15 and 16 alone. Officials said that legal action has already been initiated against around 21 shops found guilty of selling rice at inflated prices.
The CAA further reported that special operations were also carried out at the Narahenpita Economic Center on September 16, where several traders were found violating the price regulations. Officials described the raids as “successful” and confirmed that strict measures will continue in the coming days to protect consumer rights.
The Authority urged the public to report any unfair pricing through its 1977 hotline, stressing that safeguarding consumers against exploitation remains a top priority. (Newswire)
