The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement that ICC match referee Andy Pycroft has apologized to Pakistan captain Salman Al Agha and the team manager over the “handshake controversy” during the Asia Cup.

According to the PCB, Pycroft admitted the September 14 incident — where he barred the India and Pakistan captains from shaking hands — was the result of a miscommunication. The PCB had strongly protested the matter, calling it a breach of cricketing protocol.

The statement added that the ICC has expressed willingness to conduct an inquiry into the code of conduct violation that occurred during the September 14 match.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s group-stage clash against the United Arab Emirates got underway in Dubai, with the UAE winning the toss and choosing to ball first. (Newswire)
