The United National Party (UNP) working committee, chaired by party leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has decided to lift all bans and disciplinary actions previously imposed on members who joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
The decision was taken at the working committee meeting held yesterday (16) evening at the Sirikotha party headquarters in Pitakotte.
During the meeting, a committee headed by former Attorney General and President’s Counsel Tilak Marapana was appointed to study the possible legal implications arising from this move.
UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena said the step removed obstacles that had previously prevented members who joined the SJB from reuniting with the UNP and working together.
The working committee also unanimously passed a resolution to extend gratitude to all parties who supported collective political efforts since the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. (Newswire)
