Police seize 955 kg heroin, 1,422 kg ICE, 1,721 firearms in 2025 raids

Sri Lanka Police announced today that raids conducted in 2025 have led to the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and illegal firearms.

According to Police Media Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler, the recovered drugs include 955 kilograms of heroin, 1,422 kilograms of ICE, 471 kilograms of hashish, 29 kilograms of cocaine, 13,773 kilograms of cannabis, and 3.5 million narcotic pills.

In the same operations, police also seized 1,721 firearms, including 61 T-56 assault rifles and 62 pistols. Since January, 328 suspects linked to shooting incidents have been arrested, among them 38 gunmen, 27 motorcyclists, and 263 accomplices.

Meanwhile, since January 12, police have been conducting daily special operations, during which 5,101,516 individuals were searched and 104,602 suspects arrested. Of these, 4,630 were directly identified as being involved in criminal activities.

Police also reported 46,909 arrests for drunk driving and 3,404 prosecutions for reckless driving.
